Folk You! Remote Edition

StreamYard via Facebook Live

Inspired by round-robin nights held regularly in Nashville, Los Angeles and New York, Flint native, San Francisco transplant and Chicago-based singer-songwriter Larry O. Dean started Folk You! in December 2001. Weary of standard acoustic open mikes and showcases, Dean wanted something more intimate and at the same time, more varied. Held the third Friday of every month, Folk You! presents a trio of performers taking the stage simultaneously with naught but their guitars (sometimes pianos) and songs. Interaction is encouraged but there is no script; performers may play and let the songs speak for themselves, talk about how they came to write them, or wing it. Anything goes.

Details, other performers to follow.

Madison's Lilith Fair

High Noon Saloon, 701A E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI

Who remembers Lilith Fair? It was the largest women-forward festival of all time, featuring some of history's most influential female musicians, while also raising millions of dollars for charities devoted to helping women. Well, we're reviving the spirit of that festival here at High Noon Saloon! Madison's Lilith Fair will feature a lineup of all Wisconsin based female-led bands performing tribute sets to the original Lilith Fair lineups with all proceeds going to Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Domestic Abuse Intervention Services of Dane County, and Madison Girls Rock Camp. Is there anything better than rocking out while giving back? (I'll be backing Blythe Gamble as Sinead O'Connor.)
